Do you or someone you know have neck, upper back, or shoulder injury, pain, or tension? These are common issues nowadays, where people spend lots of time sitting or slouching. With the correct application of functional anatomy principles, yoga can work therapeutically to alleviate and even completely relieve these issues.
The workshop will start with a brief but thorough lecture on the functional anatomy of the upper back, neck, and shoulder girdle - and how these areas are intimately related to each other. We'll learn the reasons why so many people have pain in these areas, and how to work intelligently on and off of the yoga mat to decrease pain and discomfort. We'll discuss compensatory patterns, over-achieving muscles, and other common issues, as well as how all of this information directly applies to our asana practice. Next, we'll go through a therapeutic yoga practice focused on creating strength and intelligence in the muscles that support the shoulder girdle, upper back, and neck.
You'll leave knowing how to practice yoga in a way that guarantees longevity and suppleness in these areas, and how this information applies to your everyday life. This workshop is great for yoga teachers looking to expand their knowledge of anatomy, alignment, and safe sequencing - and for yoga practitioners of any level.
