What you’ll learn:
HOW TO PRACTICE
Through daily group practices, trainees learn how to apply the principles of yoga to their individual bodies and lifestyles. Through experiential learning, trainees will tune into the physical, emotional, and energetic bodies in more and more nuanced ways. Not only will their personal practice deepen and become physically stronger, trainees will gain insight on how to approach each moment of their personal practice and life with right effort, kindness, and intentionality. Trainees will learn to create personalized rituals that connect them to their unique allies, ancestors, and inner guidance.
WHAT TO TEACH
Training begins with defining the traditional Eight-Limbed Path as it’s described in the Yoga Sutras to put the practice into its historical perspective. We cover the lineage of yoga, the alignment of postures (asana), breathing practices (pranayama), and meditation techniques (dharana). Trainees learn how to sequence creative and safe yoga classes. We cover the three Vedic Sister Sciences - Yoga, Ayurveda (Vedic Wellness), and Jyotish (Vedic Astrology), the chakra system, and functional anatomy geared towards yoga teachers.
HOW TO TEACH
Knowing what to teach isn’t enough! Knowing how to teach skillfully is what sets apart a great teacher. Trainees learn how to hold space so their students feel supported, seen, and respected. We cover what it means to have an authentic teaching voice and how to use clear, concise, and inclusive language. We discuss and practice how to weave meaningful intentions into classes that leave students with the tools to take their practice off of the yoga mat.
Trainees will learn how to look at different bodies, and apply anatomy and movement principles to each student’s individual experience. Specific assisting techniques are covered — verbal, visual, and hands-on — in addition to how to approach therapeutic touch in a way that is safe and inclusive. Trainees learn how to help students deal with injuries, tension, and hyper-mobility in a way that is objective and nonjudgmental.
THE ETHICS & ENERGETICS OF YOGA BUSINESS
The world of yoga business is complex and oftentimes challenging. We discuss what professional and ethical behavior is expected of yoga teachers, and the common issues professional yoga teachers have in the business world. Trainees learn how to manage the complicated relationship dynamics in yoga studios and how to protect themselves from burning out.
