Embodying Contentment: Practices for Lasting Peace

  • Santa Fe Community Yoga Center 826 Camino De Monte Rey- Suite A5 Santa Fe, NM, 87505 United States (map)

The system of traditional yoga, The Eight-Limbed Path, has it's own "10 Commandments" that are specific tools and practices to bring us into alignment with our most connected selves. One of these is called Santosha, or contentment. Yoga teaches that contentment is not something that happens to us, but something we must actively cultivate. Science has proven that the more often that we intentionally evoke an emotion - like contentment - the more immediately accessible that feeling is in our everyday lives. It actually is stored in a different part of the brain! By practicing santosha, we are guaranteeing that we can be more at peace, more often, and with more ease. How sweet is that?

Join Abby in this workshop to learn the skills to change your perspective, re-wire your brain, and connect to a more peaceful part of yourself. The workshop will begin with ceremony - chanting, drumming, and calling in the Four Directions to ally ourselves with our spirits, guides, and ancestors as we do this powerful work. Ceremony will be followed by a yoga practice that will get your body moving while actively cultivating a feeling of contentment - even in postures that are challenging! The practice will end with a long, sweet cool down, a long rest, breathing practices (pranayama) and a guided meditation. You'll leave feeling blissed out and ready to take your new-found peacefulness out into your life.
