Do you or someone you know who practices yoga have a shoulder injury or tweak? Do you have neck or shoulder tension or pain? These are common issues for yogis, where we are asked to place our whole body weight onto the vulnerable shoulder joint in common poses like downward dog and chatturanga, as well as in inversions and arm balances.
This workshop will start with a brief but thorough lecture on functional anatomy. We'll learn the actions of the shoulder joint and neck, as well as how to engage, locate, and feel the important muscles & bones. We'll discuss compensatory patterns, over-achieving muscles, and other common issues, as well as how all of this information directly applies to our asana practice. Next, we'll go through a therapeutic yoga practice focused on creating strength and intelligence in the muscles that support the spine, neck, and shoulder girdle.
You'll leave with tools & exercises to strengthen these areas, knowing how to practice asana in a way that guarantees longevity and intelligence in the body. This workshop is great for yoga teachers looking to expand their knowledge of anatomy, alignment, and safe sequencing - and for yoga practitioners of any level.
