Join Abby in this special series where she'll weave together knowledge from over a decade of working with bodies as a massage therapist and yoga teacher to offer information that's practical, accessible, and applicable. Each workshop will begin with functional anatomy - we'll discuss how the joints are meant to naturally move, compensatory patterns, over-achieving muscles, and other important issues. Then, we'll move through a therapeutic yoga practice focused on creating strength and intelligence in the area of focus. You'll learn how to frame your understanding of anatomy in a way that is individualized to your body, and how to use your musculature to support safe strengthening and opening in your yoga practice.
The Spine
The spine is considered to be the central axis of all movement in yoga, as well as the most powerful channel for our life force energy. Learn how to create spaciousness and integrity in the spine through yoga postures, guided meditation, and breathing techniques. You'll be guided on how to sense and feel the physical and energetic spine, and how to safely use the spine as a point of reference for many different asanas and movements in yoga.
